We’re back again with the second installment of our year-long series with Blank News. This month’s article takes a closer look at the American pawpaw – or the hillbilly mango as it is also affectionately known – and its place in craft beers.
Crafty Bastard began playing with pawpaws back in 2017 thanks to former Crafty brewer Nic Blais and loyal customer Barry Robbins. Barry had a large pawpaw patch in his backyard. Next thing you know, we’re bartering Barry for his fruit and a series of pawpaw beers was born.
To date, we’ve used Barry’s pawpaws in a kolsch, a barrel-aged sour, and for this month’s release, a French-style saison.
